The role

Applications are now invited for the position of Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.  The appointee will be responsible for providing family dispute resolution services (mediation) with specific work tasks to include:

  • Identifying problem-solving options and strategies and providing assistance in clarifying clients’ problems and disputes
  • Assisting parents negotiate sustainable and workable parenting plans
  • Assisting parents negotiate financial settlements when these present alongside parenting issues
  • Providing assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates as required by Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Regulations
  • Facilitation of group programs where required.

Required qualifications and experience

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act.  Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.

The Role

Due to continued growth and following an internal career developmental move, applications are now invited for the role of Intake Practitioner.  This role involves the provision of screening services, information and advice to separated couples/parents, their families and other professionals and agencies with the majority of the service being provided by telephone from our centralised intake office located in Moorabbin.  Specifically, the position holder will:

  • Receive and respond to general inquiries and referrals by telephone
  • Receive referrals into Better Place Australia
  • Undertake initial screening assessment to determine need and service pathway
  • Provide information, advice and referral to those requiring counselling or dispute resolution
  • Assist with the determination of the priority of response.

To be considered for appointment, prospective candidates must possess a minimum of a Certificate IV or Diploma in Welfare, Community Services or other related discipline together with a commitment to learning, and an interest in Family Support Programs, Family Law and Family & Children’s Services program streams.  A demonstrated ability to gather screening and assessment data so as to determine access to services is essential as are strong administration skills.  Other essential criteria include excellent communication and interpersonal skills; the ability to engage and build rapport with people in crisis; well-developed organisation and time management skills and a strong customer service orientation.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency in the use of a CRM system (Penelope).

This position would appeal to candidates seeking an entry point into the community sector and/or looking to develop their client assessment skills.  The role is based in our brand-new Cheltenham head office and is available on full time basis.

The Role

The role involves the provision of psychological services predominantly through the Accessible Psychological Interventions (API) program funded by the South/East Primary Health Network. This will involve the provision of assessment and treatment of a variety of psychological conditions across a broad client group including families and children.  With excellent supervision and clinical governance systems in place, this role is part of a multidisciplinary team of practitioners working in a collegiate and learning environment.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of assessment & treatment by way of individual, group and/or family sessions;
  • Development of Psychological Treatment Plans (PTPs), Reviewing progress of PTPs and the outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies,
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services where appropriate and liaise with related practitioners
  • Develop and delivery group sessions where appropriate,
  • Develop networks and strengthen referral pathways in the region. 

Required Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered as a Psychologist, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or;
  • Qualified and Registered as a Credentialed Mental Health Social Worker and eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration and experience in mental health.
  • Clinical experience working in a community-based setting is valued.

– Previous experience working with families and/or children is highly desirable.

There are two part-time positions available (0.6 FTE/3 days per week) with one position based in Cheltenham and the other based in Pakenham. Candidates who may be seeking full time employment are also welcome to express interest.

This position is available on a part-time basis (3 or 4 days per week) and will require evening work one night per week (until 8.00pm) currently on a Thursday.
