A New Year Message from Serge
A New Year Message from SergeMonday 15 January 2018
In 2017 we were able to provide services to a record number of clients. This growth was matched with a services expansion to enable more clients to take back control of their lives. Underlying this increase is the greater awareness and need for services for those experiencing family violence.
For our sector the response to the Recommendations from the Victorian Royal Commission into Family Violence is critical. At Better Place Australia we have further enhanced our risk assessment and monitoring for clients. We are also developing support services that will be of value to courts responding to the great burden of caseload of family violence.
Our belief is that prevention and early intervention should be a key spoke in the hub of services that respond to family violence issues in the community. With 45% of our Family Dispute Resolution clients reporting the presence of Family Violence, we must respond daily however we are finding that our services are in a position of demand exceeding capacity. Over the next year, we will be advocating for better alignment and integration between State-funded services and Federally funded family support services.
In 2017 we made significant progress in the achievement of Better Place Australia’s 2015 -2020 strategic plan. Our drive to diversify resulted in the introduction of psychological services – a new direction for Better Place Australia. We note that our sustainability objective is on track with a 25% increase in revenue over the last three years. Clients numbers are at record high of 8300. Furthermore, we are responding to changing client needs by expanding services to those in the community with mental health issues and extending a number of our services to areas of emerging demographic need in the western growth corridor of Melbourne.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank directors, executive team, front line practitioners, client support, administration and support staff for their adherence to our values over 2017. Ans also thank our funding partners whose support makes Better Place Australia’s valuable community work possible.
We look ahead with optimism.
