The Role

This role will involve the provision of assessment and treatment of a variety of psychological conditions across a broad client group including families and children.  With quality supervision and clinical governance systems in place, this role is part of a multidisciplinary team of practitioners working in a collegiate and learning environment. Key responsibilities include:

  • Provision of assessment & treatment by way of individual, group and/or family sessions;
  • Development of Psychological Treatment Plans (PTPs), Reviewing progress of PTPs and the outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies,
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services where appropriate and liaison with related practitioners
  • Development and delivery of group sessions as required, and;
  • Development of networks and strengthening referral pathways in the region.

Required Professional Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered as a Psychologist, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), or;
  • Qualified and Registered as a Credentialed Mental Health Social Worker and eligible for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), or;
  • Qualified and registered as a Mental Health Nurse, and;
  • Minimum of 2 years post-registration and experience in mental health
  • Clinical experience working therapeutically with adults and children
  • Familiarity with safety and risk screening and intervention
  • Previous experience facilitating groups would be a distinct advantage.

The appointee is responsible for providing short term counselling for individuals, adolescents, couples and families.  In doing so, the appointee will work closely with Better Place Australia colleagues in developing a coordinated and integrated approach to assisting clients to resolve relationship difficulties effectively.

To be considered for this role you will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the effects of conflict on families and relationships together with knowledge and experience in brief therapy approaches, conflict resolution approaches and short-term counselling processes.  Experience in working with young people, couples, families and individuals in providing short term counselling, family therapy and other assistance is essential as is experience in dealing with parenting issues, adolescents and complex family dynamics.  Mediation experience with adolescents and parents would be a distinct advantage.  Medicare registered service providers are particularly encouraged to apply, as are candidates with psychology or mental health social worker backgrounds.

  • Offering information about post-separation parenting and provide assistance to develop parenting plans.

To be considered for appointment, prospective candidates must be eligible to enrol in the Vocational Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution.  The appointee must be willing to complete this qualification and register as an accredited Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner with the Federal Attorney-General’s Department.  This training will be provided as part of the role.
