  • Assessing a client’s financial situation to understand the extent of a person’s financial difficulties and to identify options to address these;

The Role

Through the, ‘Better Ageing – Mental Health Support for Older Australians’ federal government initiative, South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network (SEMPHN) has funded Better Place Australia to deliver free psychological in-reach services in the Mornington Peninsula region.  Research shows that more than half of Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) residents suffer from depression, compared to 10-15% of adults of the same age who live in the community. It’s also known that around half of those people affected wish to receive mental health care. This makes it timely for funded mental health services to be available to older people living in RACFs.  The position holder will deliver therapeutic interventions for residents of aged care facilities experiencing low-moderate depression and anxiety.  Key deliverables will include:

  • Provision of treatment by way of individual sessions;
  • Reviewing the outcomes of sessions, supports and strategies;
  • Referral of clients to alternative support services as and where required;
  • Liaising with the project team and group facilitator, contributing to group sessions where appropriate.

Financial Counsellors in our National Debt Helpline team support clients to resolve or alleviate financial stress and to improve their ongoing financial capability and inclusion.  With a focus on telephone-based service delivery, the role will also incorporate face to face counselling.  Key work tasks include:

  • Assessing a client’s financial situation to understand the extent of a person’s financial difficulties and to identify options to address these;
  • Conduct interviews with clients over the phone and face to face to provide triage services as required;
  • Book face to face appointments for clients and refer to other services including other Financial Counselling services where applicable;
  • Advising clients on how to access a range of entitlements and resources to improve their ability to manage their financial affairs.

Required qualifications and experience

Prospective candidates must possess a Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling), have experience in assisting clients in financial crisis and hardship and be eligible for membership of the Financial and Consumer Rights Council.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.  Previous experience as a Practitioner in a telephone-based role would be a distinct advantage.

Required qualifications and experience

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act.  Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.
