The role

Financial Counsellors in our National Debt Helpline team support clients to resolve or alleviate financial stress and to improve their ongoing financial capability and inclusion.  With a focus on telephone-based service delivery, the role will also incorporate face to face counselling.  Key work tasks include:

  • Assessing a client’s financial situation to understand the extent of a person’s financial difficulties and to identify options to address these;
  • Conduct interviews with clients over the phone and face to face to provide triage services as required;
  • Book face to face appointments for clients and refer to other services including other Financial Counselling services where applicable;
  • Advising clients on how to access a range of entitlements and resources to improve their ability to manage their financial affairs.

Required qualifications and experience

Prospective candidates must possess a Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling), have experience in assisting clients in financial crisis and hardship and be eligible for membership of the Financial and Consumer Rights Council.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.  Previous experience as a Practitioner in a telephone-based role would be a distinct advantage.

The role

Applications are now invited for the position of Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.  The appointee will be responsible for providing family dispute resolution services (mediation) with specific work tasks to include:

  • Identifying problem-solving options and strategies and providing assistance in clarifying clients’ problems and disputes
  • Assisting parents negotiate sustainable and workable parenting plans
  • Assisting parents negotiate financial settlements when these present alongside parenting issues
  • Providing assessment in relation to the provision of Certificates as required by Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner Regulations
  • Facilitation of group programs where required.

Required qualifications and experience

Prospective candidates must be able to demonstrate registration as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner together with a proven ability to work within Family Law Act.  Knowledge of the effects of separation and divorce on families is essential as is an understanding of the concepts and philosophy of family dispute resolution including mediation.  Other essential criteria include the ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to issues as they arise, excellent communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills and the ability to rapidly build rapport with clients.
